Beginning Therapy 

(A gentle overview of what to expect)

  • It’s a 10–15 minute conversation where we talk about what brings you in, answer any questions you have, and discuss next steps. It’s not a therapy session — just a gentle introduction.

  • Once your first session is scheduled, you’ll receive your intake forms electronically. You can complete them online at your own pace before your first appointment. If anything feels confusing, we can go through it together.

  • We are located at 2230 S Kinnickinnic Ave in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee.
    When you arrive, come through the front door and have a seat in the lobby.
    There’s no need to check in — we’ll come out and greet you at the time of your session.

  • Yes. We also offer secure virtual sessions for those who prefer to meet from home or need flexibility.
    You’ll receive a private link before your session.
    Find a comfortable space, settle in, and we’ll begin together.

  • Yes. Selva & Self is in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna.

  • If we are out-of-network for your plan, we can provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, and we’re happy to help you understand what questions to ask.

  • Yes. Self-pay sessions range from $100–$175, depending on the clinician you’re working with and their level of training and experience.

  • We understand that paying privately for therapy can feel like both a privilege and a stretch.
    If cost becomes a barrier, please bring it up during your consultation.
    We are open to discussing a mutually sustainable rate that supports your access to care and honors the clinician’s time and expertise.

  • You’re not alone — beginning therapy is a courageous step.
    We’ll move at your pace, with care and respect for whatever feels tender or new.
